Small, focused text-cleanup tools
Each tool handles one line-oriented transformation. The pages explain exactly what changes, what stays the same, and when a different workflow is safer.
Find Duplicate Lines
Count exact repeated lines in first-seen order without changing the source text.
Inspect repeated lines →Remove Duplicate Lines
Keep the first exact occurrence of each line while preserving the order of the remaining lines.
Keep first occurrences →Remove Empty Lines
Remove blank or whitespace-only lines while leaving meaningful lines' whitespace unchanged.
Remove blank lines →Trim Whitespace
Remove leading and trailing JavaScript-recognized whitespace from each line.
Trim line edges →Sort Lines
Sort lines using JavaScript locale-aware string comparison; not a canonical bytewise sort.
Sort a short list →Decide what should happen before you run a transformation
- Use Find Duplicate Lines when you need to inspect repeated values before changing anything.
- Use Remove Duplicate Lines when first-seen order matters and exact line equality is the right rule.
- Use Remove Empty Lines only when blank separators are unwanted and do not carry structure.
- Use Trim Whitespace only when indentation and outer spaces are disposable for your format.
- Use Sort Lines only when changing the original order is acceptable.
All five tools accept LF and CRLF input and emit LF-separated output. They process pasted lines; they do not parse CSV, JSON, source code, or log records. For large or sensitive files, follow an approved local workflow and preserve an original copy.
Read the whitespace guide or the log-cleaning guide before applying changes where formatting or sequence may carry meaning.
